IT’S OFFICIAL!
THE MOVE LEBO BIKE HUB HAS ARRIVED!
While it may look like an ordinary bike hub, it is so much more! This bike hub is 100% donor funded. Move Lebo members - YOU made this possible! Through your generous donations, we were able to purchase this bike repair station and three bike racks. (A special thanks to the Public Works Dept for doing the install!) These bright orange racks are meant to spark ideas and conversations about the way people move around our community. They serve as a statement piece to show that biking in Lebo is fun & possible. It also demonstrates that we are a community that invests in its people. Joel talks about ‘incrementalism in action’ in this Instagram post - be sure to check it out. This small win is the first of what we hope will be many more, as we continue to work for safer streets, designed for people. Let's keep the momentum going!
BIKE BASH RECAP!
On June 27th we celebrated this HUGE win with a BIKE BASH. State Rep, Jen Mazzocco, County Commissioner, Dan Grzybek and Ward 5 Commissioner, Andrew Flynn were there to share in this momentous occasion and help cut the ribbon to officially present this first of a kind bike hub. In addition to the ribbon cutting, the event included giveaways from Fleet Feet and a giant interactive Lebo map for residents to indicate where the next bike racks should go. We also created a car-free, kid-friendly bike course for our youngest riders to enjoy. And for our more advanced riders, we took a neighborhood tour with our largest group yet. The ride demonstrated the power of e-bikes to level the toughest hills and make everyday riding possible & fun!
We want to give a very special thank you to a few folks that helped to make the day even better! Adam at Adam Solar Rides brought along a fleet of e-bikes for folks to try out during our group bike ride. Considering an e-bike? Reach out to our preferred e-bike vendor, Adam! Fleet Feet generously donated clip on lights and reflective belt bags that we handed out to participants to help increase visibility while biking, walking and running. And last but not least, Antonio from Piccola Piazza brought his incredibly delicious authentic Italian gelato. It wouldn’t be a party without gelato!
BACK TO SCHOOL PAPER TRAIL CLEANUP | August 9
Join us on Sunday, August 9 at 9:30am for a paper trail cleanup in Sunset Hills. The start of school is right around the corner so we’re taking on this paper trail to get it ready for the first day of school. Bring along any loppers, shears or pruners you have. Shovels and rakes are a bonus as we’re hoping to be able to spread some mulch.

Bower Hill Blitz - We need yinz!
Help us improve Bower Hill Rd! Tired of people crashing into houses, flipping their cars, and speeding toward you at unmarked pedestrian crossings? Back to school season is upon us and soon our most vulnerable road users will be encountering these potential dangers daily when crossing Bower Hill Rd! We are looking for volunteers to help advocate for safety improvements along the municipally owned section of Bower Hill from Cochran to Washington.
Our first step is to submit an official traffic calming request with the municipality. Do you or someone you know live on this stretch of Bower Hill? We need physical signatures from at least 20 households with a Bower Hill address. Please contact joel@movelebo.org if you are interested in helping to collect signatures, or if you would like us to come by and collect yours!

RUN LEBO CELEBRATES WITH DONUTS
What’s more impressive than running all 86 miles of muni owned roads in Lebo?
How about doing it THREE times! Run Lebo recently finished their third iteration and celebrated with donuts because who doesn’t love a good donut!
Run Lebo meets Friday mornings at 7am and is always welcoming new members! All fitness levels are welcome. Interested in learning more? Send us a note.
E-BIKE ORDINANCE UPDATE
Recently, the Commission considered an e-bike ordinance that Move Lebo did not support. Why? We didn’t believe it would address the underlying issue. We also felt the ordinance was redundant, as there are current state and local laws which could be used instead. We want to see real action not another ordinance that will sit on the shelf.
As an advocacy group, one way we measure success is public engagement. Your voice matters! You showed up to “pack the room” and emailed your Commissioners and it worked! We are pleased to report that, after feedback from the community and in consultation with the Police Department, the Commission has decided to not further pursue the ordinance.
Instead, they will be working with the Police Department and School District on better educating the community, both students and adults, on the rather complex set of rules regarding electric mobility devices, and cycling safety more broadly. The Police Department will also use enforcement of the existing set of laws to ensure both pedestrians and cyclists remain safe. We will continue to advocate for Commission to identify and install appropriate bike infrastructure to reduce the contention for our sidewalks, and make active transit a much better experience for all residents. Commissioner Andrew Flynn’s recent article , The E-Bike Problem Is Real, digs deeper into the topic. In addition, a recent article by Public Source discusses the way various Pittsburgh-area municipalities are attempting to navigate the complex situation of e-mobility, your very own Move Lebo gets a shout out!
As a reminder - "pedacycles" (bikes and e-bikes) are allowed to use the sidewalks in our community, with the exception of our business districts on Beverly and Washington roads. If used, it is a cyclists responsibility to pass pedestrians with great care and with advanced audible warning. A good bike bell or "on your left" from 10-15 ft on approach is a good rule of thumb. Before passing, please ensure you were heard, especially with headphones in wide use. As a pedestrian, a little wave to indicate you've heard a cyclist goes a long way.
Francois’ latest Data
Francois spent the month of June hanging out on Dell Ave collecting traffic data. A group of concerned residents contacted us regarding the speed of traffic on Dell so we sent Francois over to collect traffic data. The residents are already in the process of gathering signatures for their traffic calming petition, which they will present to the Mobility Board in conjunction with the data we supplied. We are here to help support your efforts to demand safer streets. Through our Citizen Street Data Initiative, contributing members have the perk of utilizing Francois. Interested in hosting Francois? Walk Club
The Move Lebo Walk Club is going strong thanks to the efforts of Move Lebo member, Dave! Dave thoughtfully designs each walk to explore a different area each month and highlight useful pedestrian connections as well as some historical facts along the way. We have two upcoming walks on August and September. The walks go rain or shine.
