January 2026 Newsletter

2026 is starting out with a bang! Our first general meeting of the year was a huge success. Over two dozen folks attended, including our two new Commissioners, Margaret Izzo (Ward 2) and Nick Petti (Ward 4). We’re so grateful to have their support and look forward to working with them. The meeting laid out a clear path for our 2026 priorities, which you can read more about below. Our next general meeting will be Sunday, May 3 from 10am-11am at Needle & Bean. And speaking of Needle and Bean, we want to give them a very special shout out for their continued support and hospitality - we’re so very grateful!

move lebo Book Club

Our first book club was a blast! The subzero temps couldn’t keep folks away from discussing the merits of Jeff Speck’s Walkable City. Back Alley Brewing provided the perfect space to cozy up and chat about the social, economic, and health benefits of walkable cities and practical urban design changes that will make our community more vibrant, safe, and people-focused. Interested in joining an upcoming Book Club? Our next selection is Sidewalks by Valeria Luiselli. We’ll meet on Wednesday, March 25 at 6:30pm @ Back Alley Brewing. You can find more details about our Book Club by visiting here.

How ‘bout dem “sneckdahns” n’at?!

“Sneckdahn” or “sneckdown” however you say it, let’s give three cheers for mother nature’s traffic calming! A sneckdown or snowy neckdown is snow-covered area that gives urban designers the ability to see the space that cars use or more importantly DON’T use. Sneckdowns provide insight into where roads are overbuilt and provide a free, temporary tool for urban planners to identify areas where traffic lanes could be narrowed, creating shorter, safer crossings for pedestrians and develop spaces where things like pedestrian plazas and bike lanes can exist. Do you have a good sneckdown picture? Send it our way - we’d love to see it!

Sneckdown = snow + neckdown

Neckdown is a term for sidewalk extensions that reduce the speeds and increase pedestrian access.
