Let’s start with a warm welcome to our newest members! Over the last few weeks, we’ve experienced a substantial growth in our membership and we want to say, thank you! A very special shoutout to those folks that are tuning in from the various PTA groups, we’re so happy that you're here!

Cross Like A Boss
As many of you heard, 8 crossing guard positions were eliminated at the start of the school year, with inadequate advanced notice. A PTA president, with advance knowledge of the cuts, reached out to Move Lebo to share their concerns and asked if we could help increase awareness and educate families to cross safely at these intersections. If your neighborhood was impacted, you may have seen one of our cones on the first day of school. These cones were placed to bring awareness and to provide some tips on how to cross the street safely, e.g. “Cross Like A Boss.”
While we love our crossing guards and wouldn’t trade them, we also see the need for structural changes that make walking in our community safer 24/7. We strongly believe the onus of keeping the streets safe should not be on our children. Our kids should be able to move safely throughout the community at any time of day and on the weekends too! We regularly hear how difficult it is to staff crossing guard positions; therefore, it only makes sense that we start to consider alternative options.
If we think beyond crossing guards, we can consider options like:
Increasing the leading pedestrian intervals (LPIs) at traffic lights
Sidewalk bump-outs to shorten the crossing distance & calm traffic
Flex posts to daylight intersections and/or to create protected lanes
Raised crosswalks to slow traffic
In the coming weeks, we are going to help residents build their vocabulary in order to effectively advocate for safer streets. In addition, we plan to organize a pack the room event at an upcoming Commission Meeting for folks to voice their concerns and advocate for change.
The Lebo Loop
Advocacy work is at the heart of what we do. Another project we are actively working on is the The Lebo Loop. The Lebo Loop is a proposed micromobility loop that will connect Uptown, the high school, library, rec center, tennis center and Main Park…basically all of our best community assets! Below is the proposed route. The yellow portion is the Lebo Loop. The orange sections indicate safe routes that can be used to access the loop. The idea is that there will be a protected space for folks to safely ride bikes, scooters, onewheels, etc. Dedicated infrastructure is needed for our kids (and adults!) to safely get around without conflicting with pedestrians on our sidewalks or cars along Washington Road. Celebrating Wins
In recent weeks, you showed up!
We packed the room to oppose the e-bike ordinance. The result: Commission decided not to further pursue the ordinance.
We penned a petition to prevent the rerouting of buses on Cedar between Washington & Cochran and to save the 36 bus. The result: Commission is now voting on a resolution supporting our PRT goals. At this point, this is the best shot we have at affecting our service.
There is power in numbers and we need each and every one of you! We will keep you posted on ways you can help us to continue to advocate. We share all of this to say, keep showing up - it works! Progress is slow BUT we are making forward progress.
Bower Hill Blitz Update
The Bower Hill Blitz is moving along. We’ve collected 18 out of the required 20 signatures. We need physical signatures from at least 20 households with a Bower Hill address. If you’re reading this and live on Bower Hill or know someone who does, reach out to Joel, joel@movelebo.org to sign the petition. We hope to have the traffic calming petition submitted by the end of the month.

We’ve Adopted, again!
We are now the proud “owners” of a huge chunk of Washington Road. Move Lebo adopted the west side of Washington Road from Cochran to Scott. We intend to schedule regular cleanups of that stretch…more details coming soon! We also adopted the entire stretch Castle Shannon Blvd/Scott Rd from Washington Rd to Mt. Lebanon Blvd. Recently, we did a cleanup along Castle Shannon Blvd.
Paper street cleanup
We love building community and this paper street cleanup in Sunset Hills was our most favorite yet! Neighbors contacted Move Lebo concerned about the condition of the paper street along their property. After several asks for help to the municipality and being told no, Move Lebo said YES! The surrounding neighbors came out to help, taking ownership and working together to make their neighborhood better! Together, we laid 4 yards of mulch, unearthed several feet of sidewalk, trimmed hedges, dug out roots to even the trail and installed solar lights. Triboro Bike Ride Recap
September showers didn’t stop us from our second attempt of the Triboro ride! Together we explored Mt. Lebanon, Dormont and Brookline. The route provided some interesting new views - it’s aways fun to check out a new bike route. And speaking of bike routes, have you heard of Bike Streets? The concept is to create a chill bike map that everyone can use. Bike Streets is working to bring people together to make Low-Stress Bike Maps and get cities to invest in bike transportation. Check it out!
